The GalleryBrian Marki Fine Art was established in September of 1994. Since then, the gallery has expanded to accomodate the growing number of artists represented by Brian Marki. Located in the historic Irvington district, Brian features local, national and international artists. The gallery specializes in contemporary fine art in all mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, glass, and fine art prints. This Eastside secret is well worth the visit. Our PhilosophyIn choosing art for the gallery, Brian looks for art rooted in history but that gives us a glimpse of the future – art that lives well in the continuum of art making. He looks for and shows art that is friendly and easy to live with. Some is mildly challenging but respectful of the viewer. Come in and find out what this means with respect to showing art. The Man Behind the GalleryBrian began his art career as a young teen as an artist’s apprentice, learning not only how to make art, but to create frames from the artist’s point of view. He continued his studies in art at California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC) where he studied printmaking, painting, design and gallery management. He never stopped doing his framing work, and opened his first frame shop in Oakland, California after graduation from CCAC in 1984. The shop still exists today and is run by the partner who helped establish it. Having his studio in the building allowed Brian to continue making art while growing a business. Everything was wonderful except the quality of life. Brian moved to Portland in 1992 and shares his love of “the most livable city in the U.S.” freely and unabashedly. His vision for the future of the gallery includes many collaborative efforts with visual artists, musicians and writers. FramingTraveling the world, Brian has studied American, English and European design. His love of Italian styles and finishes allows for a depth of design not immediately recognizable, but more intuited. His blend of contemporary with traditional is unique and heartfelt. From children’s art to masterpieces, the same effort is applied in finding the right presentation for each piece. Want to know more?
